The Head Of The Market

The 6,844 yard course at the TPC at River Highlands offers something for everyone as recent winners have shown that it is a venue where strategists and bombers alike can prosper, with Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth amongst the bookmakers’ leading runners.

Spieth is perhaps the pick of the market leaders as he enjoyed a fine final round at Erin Hills on Sunday and he is 10/1 shot (Ladbrokes) on what will be his debut in this tournament.

McIlroy is also available at 10/1 but we would need to see more from a player who has been feeling his way back from injury. Like McIlroy, Jason Day is bidding to bounce back from a missed cut at Erin Hills and he is a slender 12/1.

Justin Thomas is a touch further back at 14/1 following his sensational, record-breaking 63 at Erin Hills on Saturday. Thomas faded badly on Sunday and it is difficult to know where he is at mentally, although it does bode well that he tied 3rd at the Travelers twelve months ago.

Paul Casey (22/1) has a decent record here too as he lost a play-off to Bubba Watson in 2015 but the Englishman had a weekend to forget at the US Open and he too has a few demons to exorcise.

Elementary For Watson

It is Bubba Watson who is very much a horse for this course and he is a very attractive price at 33/1. Watson hasn’t missed a cut in nine visits to TPC River Highlands and during that time he has come away with two titles and three other top-six finishes.

The nine-time PGA Tour winner has endured a difficult 2017 but a tie for 6th at Muirfield Village, where he putted very well, prior to his usual US Open disappointment, suggests that he could be ready to challenge once more.
Tip #1: Bubba Watson (each way) @ 33/1 with Sky Bet.

The Best Of The Rest

Brendan Steele is another with a fine record at TPC River Highlands as he has secured five top-25 finishes in six visits (13-MC-13-5-25-17). The American will be buoyant after securing a seventh top-20 finish of the year with his very impressive tie for 13th at Erin Hills on Sunday and we are going to back him to go well again.
Tip #2: Brendan Steele (each way) @ 35/1 with Paddy Power.

Charley Hoffman also impressed at the US Open as he eventually tied for 8th following a superb start. It enhanced a decent 2017 record for Hoffman, who also tied 4th at the Genesis and tied 2nd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and he hasn’t missed a cut in six visits to TPC River Highlands, going 2-7-26-25 in his last four appearances.
Tip #3: Charley Hoffman (each way) @ 40/1 with Sky Bet.

Finally, Graham De Laet continues to chase his maiden PGA Tour title and he could go close again at The Travelers, where he finished 3rd in 2014 and 5th in 2015. A hot putter is always a requirement in Connecticut and that bodes well for De Laet, who secured a fourth top-ten of the year with a very fine round of 67 at The Memorial last time out.
Tip #4: Graham De Laet (each way) @ 66/1 with Bet Victor.
