Ronnie O’Sullivan will attempt to win his third consecutive Masters Snooker crown when the action kicks off at the Alexandra Palace at the weekend, and a win for the Rocket will see him grabbed a coveted eighth Masters title, and he is sure to start off as the man to beat, but there will be a whole host of top notch performers bidding for glory, as the top-16 do battle in the capital.

O’Sullivan Set To Shine At Ally Pally

O’Sullivan beat Joe Perry 10-7 in last year’s final, but it was two years ago his dominant 10-1 annihilation of Barry Hawkins that emphasised that when he is on his best game that there’s nobody that can live with him, and he deserves to be the 5/2 favourite with Paddy Power to land victory once again,

Only a few weeks ago, O’Sullivan beat Shaun Murphy 10-5 in the UK Championship, and the Masters is a tournament that sees him come to life, and he should have no problems in getting past Marco Fu in the first round, and as the competition progresses he should settle down on the baize, and he is most certainly the one to back in what should be a superb week of top quality snooker.

Likely Challengers

Mark Selby is a three-times winner of this tournament, and he should be too good for Luca Brecel (40/1) in their first round clash, but he hasn’t won a tournament since the beginning of November, and is someone that is potentially not playing at his best in recent times, so at 5/1 with Ladbrokes is a player worth avoiding.

Judd Trump is 6/1 with Betfair Sportsbook, and he is another player that isn’t in top form on the table, and has to be another to avoid at the head of the betting, as he bids for his first win in the Masters tournament.

John Higgins (17/2 with Unibet) beat Ronnie O’Sullivan 5-0 in the last tournament, and the Wizard of Wishaw is a player that can’t be discounted at the highest level, but you have to feel O’Sullivan will want to avenge that defeat, should they meet, and will find it tough to emulate that whitewash.

Lively Outsiders

Shaun Murphy lifted this trophy in 2015, and showed when losing to O’Sullivan a few weeks ago that he can sparkle on the big stage, and at 14/1 with Unibet could be one of the more likely winners from outside the top few in the betting, while Mark Williams (25/1) is someone to be sparkling in the latter years of his career, and has the temperament to shine here, having won the event twice before.
