Recent Form

Newcastle go into the match in poor form as they have gone five games without a win in all competitions and their home record makes for quite dreadful reading if you support the Toon Army.

The Magpies have the worst home record in the top-flight after taking 13 points from 13 games this season and the home faithful haven’t seen their team win at St James’ Park since 21st October!

It is no surprise to see that the hosts are 5/1 underdogs for this game (Bet Victor) and they have won only one of the past ten Newcastle v Man Utd clashes in all competitions, drawing two and losing seven.

Strong Defence

Benitez’s side have only kept two clean sheets in their past 17 outings but their games have generally been close-run things, with eight of their last ten going under 2.5 goals (5/6 with BetVictor.com).

In fact, home games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham have all gone under 2.5 goals, so it is fair to assume that Benitez will take a pragmatic approach to this clash with the equally cautious Mourinho.

Manchester United have the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding just 18 goals, and they have kept five clean sheets in their past six matches. With that in mind, the United win combined with under 2.5 goals can be backed at 11/4 or the United win and under 3.5 goals at 13/10 (Boylesports) provides a nice little safety net.

It is Romelu Lukaku who could be the man to fire the visitors to victory as he has scored six goals in nine appearances against Newcastle, laying on four assists in that time. The Belgian striker is finding form again as he has scored four goals in his last six appearances for the Red Devils and he is 15/4 favourite to score first (Bet Victor).
