Sweden are appearing at a World Cup for the first time since 2006 as they finished runners up to France in their qualifying group before stunning Italy in a play-off. Janne Andersson’s men are 11/10 for the win in Group F but we wonder whether they have the firepower to cause teams problems, particularly with Zlatan Ibrahimovic now retired.

Al Ain forward, Marcus Berg, stepped out of Zlatan’s shadow to score eight goals during qualifying and he is 5/1 to score first.

However, Sweden have failed to score in three of their four internationals during this calendar year and they have failed to win any of those games, drawing 0-0 with both Denmark and Peru during the recent warm-up matches. Backing against both teams to score could be a prudent bet for odds-on backers (4/5 with Bet Victor).

South Korea are hardly ripping up any trees themselves as they have won just one of their last six friendlies, but they do have greater experience when it comes to tournament football as this is their ninth successive appearance at a World Cup finals. They famously finished fourth on home soil in 2002 before making the last-sixteen in 2010, and they are 10/3 to start with a win on Monday.

Tottenham’s Son Heung Min is 13/2 to score first, although we fancy the stalemate is the best bet for this game and the draw can be backed at 11/5 with Paddy Power. The teams have met three times before this, with Sweden winning 2-0 in 1996 before they drew 1-1 and 2-2 in 2005. Another draw seems like a solid bet for a fixture involving two inconsistent sides.
