Tiger Woods Starts Favourite For The Arnold Palmer Invitational But Great Scott Is Our Best Bet

Tiger Woods is back. The 14-time major winner is a 6/1 favourite for this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational after he took a share of second at the Valspar Championship on Sunday and plenty of punters are backing him for a first PGA Tour win since 2013…

The Return Of Woods

Woods produced a huge effort to go close to breaking his drought last week and he now heads to Bay Hill, where he has won the Arnold Palmer Invitational on eight (EIGHT!) occasions previously. The American is a touch skinny at 6/1 but what a wonderful story it would be if he were to win.

Justin Rose also enjoyed a good week at the Valspar while his English compatriot Paul Casey ended his own winless run on Sunday and Rose is 14/1 having twice finished on the podium at Bay Hill.

However, there has only been one European winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, with the likes of Henrik Stenson, who has four top-eight finishes and a missed cut to show from his last five visits to Bay Hill, and the out-of-sorts Rory McIlroy, who tied 4th here last year, also looking to halt that trend.

Great Scott

Jason Day won here in 2016 and the ‘lightly raced’ Australian returns in fine fettle as he has made just two starts in 2018, winning at Torrey Pines and finishing runner-up at Pebble Beach.

Australians have a good record here as Marc Leishman won this title in 2017 but it is his compatriot, Adam Scott, who ranks as our best bet of the week as he is showing signs of returning to form again, with top-20 efforts in each of his last two outings. Following a difficult 2017 campaign, the 37-year-old will take great confidence from the resurgent form of Woods, Casey, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson this year and he has a good record in Florida, with Scott twice finishing in the top-three at Bay Hill.
Tip #1: Adam Scott (each way) @ 40/1 with Unibet – 1/5 odds on 6 places.

The Best Of The Rest

Brian Harman is another who enjoys this course having secured three top-20s in six appearances and he has been a model of consistency during the past 12 months, with the 2017/18 season alone yielding five top-five finishes.
Tip #2: Brian Harman (each way) @ 40/1 with Betfred – 1/5 odds on 6 places.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat has also enjoyed playing Bay Hill as he has finished in the top-six in both of his visits and he is in great form, winning two of his last four starts – a run that also included a top-five effort at the WGC Mexico Championship.
Tip #3: Kiradech Aphibarnrat (each way) @ 50/1 with Betfred.

Zach Johnson, the two-time major winner, has been so consistent of late as his tie for 16th at the Valspar was his seventh top-25 effort in his last eight outings. Johnson will enjoy this track, particularly if wind becomes a factor, which it often has since the fairways were widened in 2015. Johnson has five top-tens and just one missed cut to show from 14 trips to Bay Hill.
Tip #4: Zach Johnson (each way) @ 66/1 with Betway – 1/4 odds on 5 places.

Finally, we’re going to put Francesco Molinari onto the shortlist too as the Italian is very much a horse for this course. Molinari has secured four successive top-20 finishes at Bay Hill (5-17-9-7) and this could be the perfect venue for him to rediscover his very best in what will be his first start since a tie for 25th in Mexico.
Tip #5: Francesco Molinari (each way) @ 70/1 with Betway.
