Nicky Henderson last saddled the Imperial Cup winner in 2009 when Dave’s Dream stormed to victory, but the Seven Barrows handler will fancy his chances of landing more success on Saturday as he saddles the progressive Whatswrongwithyou, who will be hoping to win this race to earn a penatly to get into either the County Hurdle or Martin Pipe at next week’s Cheltenham Festival.

  • Only two of the last ten winners have carried more than 11st
  • Five and six-year-olds have a decent record in the race
  • The last five winners had been seen on a racecourse less than 25 days earlier

Henderson Pair To Shine

A brace of wins at Newbury have propelled Whatswrongwithyou up the ratings, and his nine-length success last time out just showed that he is a real class act, and if he can build on that effort then he has to be the one to beat, and is entitled to be the 5/1 favourite with Ladbrokes bookmakers.

He shaped like he be a potential 150-rated horse over hurdles, and if Nico de Boinville can get him travelling smoothly then it’s hard to not see him at least making the frame, and off 10st 13lbs he could be a cracking bet in what is always a fiercely-contested showpiece event the weekend before Cheltenham.

Henderson will unleash two smart performers here, and Call Me Lord will have to give heaps of weight to his rivals, and he was marked down as a Champion Hurdle player earlier in the season, but the 8/1 chance with Ladbrokes failed to land a blow when third to Elgin in the Kingwell Hurdle, and he may just find this a little tough to carry top weight to glory against some progressive horses.

Lively Challengers

Dr Richard Newland saddled Ebony Express to victory in this race a few years ago, and he will aim to regain his crown on Saturday and unleashes the interesting Le Patriote, who was an impressive winner at Ascot last time out, and has to be considered at 13/2 with William Hill.

Friday Night Light (9/1 Betfred) was second in that Ascot contest, and will be looking to turn that form around, and has to be respected, while Silver Streak (9/1 Coral) and Fidux (14/1 Coral) are another prominent pair of the betting, and have some decent form on their record, and feature heavily.

Each-Way Plays

Three of the last six winners have been priced 20/1 or bigger, so it’s a race that some attractive each-way value floating about, and the two that catch the eye at bigger prices are Octagon (16/1 Ladbrokes), who lines up on the back of three wins, and looks to still be improving, and Castafiore (33/1 Betway), who is another lining up in fine form, and adds more depth to a terrific betting heat.
