2018 Premier League Darts Finals Night Betting Preview Van Gerwen And Anderson To Progress To Final

Spread the love

We have reached Finals Night in the Premier League Darts, and four giants of the oche will do battle at London’s O2 Arena, and reigning champion Michael van Gerwen will line up as the red-hot favourite to retain his crown, but the dazzling Dutch thrower will face three massive opponents in what should be a sensational finish to what has been a tremendous competition.

World champion Rob Cross will aim to celebrate his step up into England’s World Cup of Darts squad by downing van Gerwen, like he did in the semi-final of the World Championships, while two-times winner Gary Anderson will aim to land a hat-trick of Premier League titles, with Michael Smith completing the quartet, and ‘Bully Boy’ will line up the outsider of the field.

7:20pm Michael van Gerwen v Rob Cross – 1st Semi-Final

Michael van Gerwen has had the measure of Rob Cross in their two previous Premier League meetings this year, as the Dutchman has trounced ‘Voltage’ 7-2 in both matches, but Cross knows he has the game to beat van Gerwen having beaten him an epic semi-final at the World Championship.

Unsurprisingly, van Gerwen will start as a hot favourite, but the 1/5 with Ladbrokes for an MvG win is a little too skinny, and while he may prevail in this best-of-19 legs match some punters will enjoy getting stuck into the 4/1 with Paddy Power for a Cross win.

With not much value available in the win market it’s worth looking elsewhere, and Cross should put up a better display over the longer format, and the 6/5 with Unibet for there to be over 16.5 legs in the match is worth a bet, while a 10-7 scoreline in favour of van Gerwen is an attractive 15/2 with Betfair Sportsbook.

8:30pm Michael Smith v Gary Anderson – 2nd Semi-Final

Gary Anderson’s 7-5 win over the above-mentioned van Gerwen last week showed that on his day ‘The Flying Scotsman’ can deliver on the big stage, and he will be hoping to down his good friend Michael Smith on Thursday night in a mouth-watering semi-final.

Smith has been a revelation in this year’s Premier League, finishing second in the table, but he is the 12/5 outsider with Betfred in this match-up, with Anderson installed as a 2/5 chance with Ladbrokes, as he aims to book his final spot and look to bag his third Premier League title.

In their two previous meetings in the Premier League this year, Smith won the first clash 7-5, while Anderson bounced back with his own win last time out as he won 7-2, and it can be Anderson that sparkles in the capital on Thursday, and he can duly demolish his rival, and the Anderson -3.5 on the handicap is worth a bet, and is an attractive 6/5 with Betfred bookmakers.

The Final

If van Gerwen and Anderson qualify for the final then we should have a real spectacle to conclude the showpiece event, and the pair are the two favourites in the outright betting with van Gerwen a 1/2 shot with William Hill, while Anderson is next in at 4/1 with Betway, and if van Gerwen can produce his best then it’s hard to see Anderson being able to live with the Dutch star, despite beating him last week.
