Back McNulty To Score In A Coventry Win Against Exeter At Wembley

The League Two Play-Off Final between Coventry v Exeter City looks set to be an excellent sign-off for the 2017/18 football season. Coventry produced perhaps the performance of any play-off tie when they comprehensively annihilated Notts County 4-1 away for a 5-2 aggregate score to set up a meeting with Paul Tisdale’s Exeter at Wembley.

The Play-Off final betting shows that both teams are available at around 2/1 to win the match outright in 90 minutes, however Coventry are marginally backed favourites to lift the League Two play-off trophy at 3/4, compared to evens for Exeter. In the modern era, the three meetings between the pair have yielded two Coventry wins to Exeter’s one.

Coventry v Exeter Odds

Tisdale will want to go out with a bang. The longest serving manager in the English Football League, Tisdale is widely expected to depart Exeter this summer. Leaving with the Grecians securing League One status will cement his legacy and no doubt encourage more attractive offers from suitors with managerial vacancies. This is the second successive season that Exeter have made the League Two play-off finals, and they’ll want to avenge the disappointment of last year.

For Coventry, forward Marc McNulty has been the Sky Blues’ star man, and he repaid the fans’ adoration with the goal against Notts County in the semi-final that all but sealed their passage to Wembley. McNulty is favourite to open the scoring at best 4/1 with betfair after finishing joint-league top scorer with 25 for the season. Anytime with a Coventry win is 5/2 with BoyleSports.

Other League Two Play-Off Final Bets

Coventry recorded their highest ever table position in half a century by finishing sixth in League Two to solidify their play-off position, whereas Exeter finished in fourth, just missing out on an automatic promotion to Wycombe Wanderers. The Grecians finished the season strongly, with just one loss in six. Each win, however, was only by a one goal margin. Furthermore, since the start of the decade, only once has one team scored more than two goals against the other and just on three occasions have there been three or more goals within a League Two Play-Off Final. Therefore, Exeter to win by one goal is backed by betfair at 7/2, 1-0 being the same score in the two teams’ last meeting at the beginning of the calendar year for the home team at St. James’ Park. The exact score to be replicated is suggested at 8/1 with BetVictor. One team to edge over the other, and therefore to see under 1.5 goals within the game is 2/1 (bet365).

During this same period of finals, the match has only gone to extra-time once, in 2015 between Southend and Wycombe which also eventually went to penalties. Coventry are 10/1 and Exeter 12/1 to win this Saturday in extra-time with BetVictor. Either team to win on penalties is 10/1 with William Hill.

As it is famously billed, the most expensive match in football, teams are generally quite cagey and cautious approaching the last hurdle before entering into the top tier and a low-scoring match is to be expected. Paul Tisdale and Exeter will be experienced in approaching such an important game and should be reluctant to mount a constant attack, wary of their Play-Off Final last year, having lost 2-1 to Blackpool.

Coventry will be hoping their specially commissioned limited edition shirt will bring them the fortune they were afforded when the Sky Blues won the same kit in the 1987 FA Cup Final win over Tottenham Hotspur.
